There are many times when caregivers feel stuck in the middle trying to determine how to best take care of their aging parents.
One of these times could be when their parents need some help, but don’t necessarily need to be in a nursing home or other facility, and also don’t yet need the type of in-depth medical care that these types of facilities offer.
But at the same time, they need someone to assist them.
For this “in the middle period” the solution is to seek out non medical home care to allow them to age in place as long as possible in a safe environment.
But if order for caregivers to do this, there are generally several questions they ask about non medical home care…

What Exactly Does Non Medical Home Care Entail?
Non Medical Home Care is designed to assist seniors who are in need of help in performing the 6 Activities of Daily Living. The 6 are…

How Does Non Medical Home Care Get Paid For?
This is the natural next question to ask. How do these services get paid for? Do I have to pay out of my own pocket? Does Medicare pay for it? Medicaid? What’s the answer?

Laura Giunta is the Community Relations Coordinator and Head of Business Development at Senior Helpers and is also a Certified in Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care.
She is a fellow member of the Long Island Chapter of the National Aging In Place Council with me, so it was easy to go to her to have my questions answered.
Senior Helpers provides quality in home assistance to individuals who are living independently and require help in areas such as nutrition, transportation, socialization, safety monitoring, hygiene encouragement and much more, so she is well placed to answer questions regarding non medical home care.
Laura actually did a video regarding this topic.

The best bet is for you to contact a company, like Senior Helpers (which is a national non medical home care company) to explain the exact services needed
What Type of Services Are Offered?
Here, we are really asking if a non medical home care company will expand their reach and deal with services that are beyond the scope of the 6 traditional Activities for Daily Living.
And as Laura mentioned in the video, services such as wound care are available. What is needed, more than anything, is for you as a caregiver to sit down with a knowledgeable coordinator like Laura Giunta in order to determine what type of services your loved one needs.
With that information, the coordinator you are speaking with will be able to set up a plan for the care of your loved one as well as discuss your payment options.
