Chemotherapy is a part of cancer that can be especially hard on their health and lives. It’s a way to kill the cancer cells in the body, but the impacts that it has on the body seem to do more harm than good at times. There are some people who seem to be able to handle the side effects better than others, but in the end, there are effects that you just can’t seem to get past. Fortunately, there are some ways that you can find a bit of comfort during your treatments.
While you’re receiving the treatment, you will likely become bored. You can take almost anything to keep you busy, such as a deck of cards, a book or a phone so that you can listen to music or play games. There are some facilities that have televisions set up for patients to watch. If you have someone with you, consider taking a board game or something that you can enjoy together. Another option is yarn so that you can crochet.
One of the things that can take your mind off of chemotherapy is shopping. You’ll want to shop for hats and wigs soon after treatment begins as you’ll find that your hair will begin to come out quickly. While most times hair comes back in easily, you still want to find comfort when it is falling out. The Next Step and other online stores offer fun fashions that can cover the head so that it stays protected from the sun while staying warm as well.
Food And Drinks
Before and during the treatment, you want to keep the body hydrated and energized. Don’t take a large snack as some of the medications might make you sick. Water is good to have on hand as you want the body to have as much as possible. Candy or mints are an idea so that you have something to keep in the mouth for the duration of the treatment, which can sometimes take your mind off of what’s going on around you.
You’ll probably be in the treatment center for some time during the day, so you want to dress as comfortably as possible. Take a pillow with you along with a blanket as most centers can get cold at times. Leggings and a shirt that is easy to maneuver in case you have to deal with needles is the ideal outfit.
When you’re fighting cancer, there is a high chance you’ll have to deal with chemotherapy. While some people decide not to undergo the treatment, it is one that could save your life. Find a support team to go with you, and take a bag of treats to enjoy while at the center.
